Cecil William Frank Packer
July 5th, 1924 – December 29th, 2014
Cecil passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in East Oxford, Ontario to William and Olive Packer. His growing up years were spent in the Woodstock area and as a young man in the early 1950’s, travelled west and settled in Edmonton, Alberta where he married Eleanor Read. They had 2 children and he thoroughly enjoyed his work and partnership with Riley Transport. When that partnership ended, he purchased a half-section farm outside of Vegreville, Alberta where the family enjoyed 3 years. Severe winters and low grain prices moved them on to British Columbia. In 1967 they purchased the Glenmore Store in Kelowna, B.C. where they lived until 1976. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor in April of 1975. After marrying Alice Duursma in September of 1976, Cecil joined Alice and her youngest 3 children in Armstrong, B.C. and enjoyed 14 years working for the Armstrong Cheese Factory. Upon retirement, they settled in Penticton, B.C. and only 5 months ago, returned to Armstrong, B.C.
Cecil will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 38 years; Alice, his children; Clayton (Sandra) Packer, Barbara Morello (Bob), his step-children; Jake Duursma, John (Susie), Annette Burden (Wes), Dorothy Purdy (Mark), Tim (Liza), David, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Interment preceded a Celebration of Cecil’s Life which took place at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 2nd, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Dennis Bunio officiating.
