Cecile Gallon, of Lumby, BC, passed away in Montreal, Quebec on Sunday, 9 February 2014, after a long struggle with heart disease.
She was born to Joseph and Marie-Louise Gallon in Lumby, British Columbia, on 4 October 1925. Cecile was a primary teacher and completed studies at the University of Victoria, McGill University and the University of British Columbia.
Cecile devoted her life to teaching in British Columbia and Quebec, specializing in kindergarten and elementary grades. Among her accomplishments were an innovative approach to phonics and the integration of music and rhythm training in language teaching, an area in which she was a pioneer. She acted as a consultant to the Ministry of Education of British Columbia in the development of French immersion schools in the Okanagan Valley. She was also a talented musician and singer, and is fondly remembered for her lively performances on the accordion.
She is survived by her brother, George; her son, Denis, and her daughter Susanne; her five grandchildren, Raphael, Anna Luisa, Ellen, Laura, and Miriam; and her seven great-grandchildren, Violet, Alia, Claire, Rowena, Evan, Chloé and Logan.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, 10 May 2014, at Sacred Heart Church in Lumby.
