Charles Kingsford Abbott

(June 19, 1930-August 26, 2011)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Charles (Chuck) Kingsford Abbott. Deeply respected by his family, Dad leaves us with the legacy of his love. He lived for his children and grandchildren and would often be seen on the sidelines of a soccer game or in the stands at a performance or celebration cheering. Dad was our number one fan and we loved sharing our lives with him.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Dad had a deep respect for nature and the outdoors. He spent many hours hunting in the mountains around Golden, Radium, and Vernon. He was an accurate marksman and was a strong advocate of the fair hunt. Dad loved ocean fishing on the West Coast. Generous to a fault he loved to share his catch, or anything else he had, with family and companions. He took great joy in his many friendships and always looked forward to meeting up with his fishing and hunting buddies out on the trail, sharing a meal, a good story or a hand of cards.

Dad had a special bond with all his animals and especially his dogs Princess and Shelby. The love shared was evident in the respect and care he showed for them and in the loyal companionship they gave back.

A man of strong principles and values, Dad taught his children and grandchildren by sharing his life experiences. Raised in the dirty thirties Dad learned and then taught us to give our best always, to do more than what is expected and to be proud of a job well done. Although he lived with a disability Dad courageously refused to let this stop him. Like so many of his generation, he could fix almost anything and if he decided to do something…he did it!

He was a man of great integrity and generosity, a man who championed the underdog. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back. His example enriched our lives.

Dad leaves behind his loving family, wife Pat of 40 years; 4 children, sons Robert and Jeff Abbott(Lisa) and daughters Dee Anne LeCerf(Doug) and Frances Franson (Terry); grandchildren Danielle Berresford (Steve) and Heather LeCerf, Natalie, Lindsay, Dylan and Logan Abbott, Alisha and Robin Franson, and Christine and Robert Abbott; great grandchildren Thomas and Isabelle Berresford; sister and brother in-law Bev and Ernie Lakey; nieces Robin, Linda, Steven, Darryl and Geoff, his sister in-law Joyce Woods … and many wonderful friends!

Dad was predeceased by his mom and dad, Dorothy and Arthur his brothers Robert Abbott and Tommy Woods and his niece Karen Lakey.

Dad’s Celebration of Life service will take place at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home in Vernon on Friday, September 16 beginning at 1:30pm.
