It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, Dad, Grampa, and great-Grampa, Charlie, at the age of 81. Charlie passed peacefully at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on December 1, 2009.
Charlie is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Janet (Jenny) and children: Ralph (Sheryl), Tina (Brian) Matchett, Janice (Bill) Hornell, David (Cindy), Alasdair (Judy) and Shaun (Mike) Marsh. Also his sister, Violet Cochrane, of Dundee, Scotland. Charlie will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his 16 special grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and all his extended family and friends too numerous to mention by name.
Charlie was born in Dunoon, Scotland and moved to India as an infant until he was 7-years-old when returned to Scotland to receive his early schooling. Charlie entered the Edinburgh Academy at the age of 15 to study Animal Husbandry and Horticulture then he spent two years in the British Army. He met and fell in love with the love of his life, Jenny in Mull of Kintyre. They married, had five children and immigrated to Vernon, BC Canada in 1964 where they had their sixth child. Charlie was the Manager of Vernon Orchards until they moved to Lumby in 1972 and the rest is history. Charlie enjoyed his life with his family and friends in Lumby.
At Charlie’s request there will be no service.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may make a donation to The Light a Bulb Campaign at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital in memory of Charles Coombs.
The family of Charlie would like to express their sincere thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their compassionate care of Charlie during his stay in the hospital. Thank you.
