1946 – 2013
Cheryl Dunn, 66, passed away in Vernon, BC, on August 5, 2013 with her daughter by her side. Born in Saskatchewan, she moved to BC in 1949 with her parents and older siblings.
While Cheryl went to secretarial school shortly after her graduation from Enderby High School in 1964, her chosen career was waitressing. She waitressed in many BC communities such as Mica, Nakusp, Vancouver, and Enderby. Later in life she developed myotonic dystrophy (a form of muscular dystrophy that begins in adulthood) that prevented her from working. Her favourite interests in life were her family and friends, tending to her flowers when she could, watching the Canucks play on television, bowling when she was in her twenties and cribbage after that. She will be missed by her daughter Carla, grandson Sam, brother Dennis, brother Randy (and wife Brenda), and sister Valerie, as well as her good friend Dave, Aunt Doreen, many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and one great-great-niece. She was predeceased by her parents Bert and Wyona (nee Petch), sister Darlene (Davyduke), and brother Darrel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family thanks the care provided by the Intensive Care Unit staff of both the Kelowna General Hospital and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital during the final days of Cheryl’s life.
A grave-side service will be held in late August.
