Christel Gertrude Cam

We regret to announce the sudden passing of Christel Gertrude Cam (nee Baron) on Dec. 27, 2004 at home. Christel was born Nov. 24, 1948 in Saltzwedel, East Germany. Her Mother, Father, and sister escaped and moved as refugees to Vernon in 1953 where she resided all but a few of her years. She will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 36 years, King; her son Dean of Vernon; daughters Denise of Vernon, Delphine (Jeff) of New Westminster; Sisters Erika Lambert, Osoyoos, and Ingrid Baron (Dennis), Vernon; her dear friend and mother-in-law Norah Stewart, Vernon; 1 nephew and niece, Duane (Kimberly) Needoba of Florida and Carey (Brad) Jamen of Calgary. And many good friends and extended family. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Stan, 1988 and Adele, 1993. Christel worked in various local restaurants and was an employee of Super Valu for a number of years. She enjoyed co-managing the family business, Alley Auto Works, and was instrumental in assisting King with coordinating many Golf and Hockey functions. She will be fondly remembered for her countless hours of volunteer work with The Vernon Winter Carnival, namely the Parade and Bandarama, for which she recently received the prestigious Order Of Jopo. But she was mostly dedicated to and so very proud to be involved with the Vernon Girls Trumpet Band for more than 40 years and wearing the “Staff Badge” for nearly 20 years. She was a truly beautiful person inside and out. Funeral service will be held 1 pm, Monday Jan. 3, 2005 at the Faith Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Head officiating. Cremation. Internment to follow at the Baron Family plot, Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Donations in Christel’s memory may be made to The Vernon Girls Trumpet Band, Box 1567 Vernon B.C. V1T 8C2.
