Christine Lorraine Gutenberg (nee MacDonald)

Christine was born on the family homestead at Clandonald, Alberta during a blizzard on February 23rd, 1944 and was delivered by her father. She passed away peacefully in the Gateby Care Centre on January 18th, 2021 at the age of 76 years, with family by her side.
In Christine's younger years she played basketball for CBSS in Lumby and even scored the winning basket for the Okanagan Championships. She was also a Lumby Princess in her teen years. Christine met the love of her life, Tony Gutenberg in Lumby and they were married on July 3rd, 1965. They raised their three daughters on Whitevale Road.
Christine was very active in the community, volunteering for the Whitevale Playground Society, Lumby Figure Skating Club, Lumby Senior's Housing, Lumby Lend-A-Hand Club, B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Vernon Vipers Hockey Club.
In addition, she was a fabulous cook and incredible cake decorator, avid golfer and loved camping and huckleberry picking. In her later years she enjoyed scenic drives with Tony exploring the back roads of the Lumby area. Christine worked for School District #22 as a school secretary for 30 years, retiring in 2002. She also taught Chinese cooking at Okanagan College for four years.
Christine's memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Anthony (Tony) Gutenberg; her daughters, Ellen (Rick) Leyk, Marlene Lang and Angie (Randy) Meier; five grandchildren, Joseph and Alice Leyk, Sidney Lang and Daniel and Justine Meier; her siblings, Pat (Orlando) Marchi, Bill (Lavender) MacDonald, Jim (Roma) MacDonald, Jessie Marchi, Ruby Bruce and John (Rita) MacDonald; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roderick and Alice (Gudwer) MacDonald.
In respecting Christine's wishes, she was cremated and a private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Christine to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation, #4-1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 9M9
