Christopher Dixon Pritchet, Ph.D, born 1915 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, passed away peacefully at home in Victoria, B.C. on October 18, 2004. Christopher moved to London, England from Colombo when he was 21 to study at the University of London. During the Second World War he was a radar operator in the RAF. He taught Classics at Harrow County and Chiswick County Grammar Schools. In 1957 he immigrated with his family to Canada, taught in Grassland, Alberta, and completed his M.A. in Classics (U. London) in 1959. He continued his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago, specializing in Greek Medicine, and receiving his Ph.D. in 1966. For many years he was Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, and retired to Victoria in 1983. During his life, Christopher was an accomplished musician and served as a church organist both in Saskatoon and Victoria. He was predeceased by his wife Lily in 1997, and is survived by his daughter, Margaret Burton (Walt) of Vernon, B.C.; son, Chris Pritchet (Darlene Kakoske) of Victoria, B.C. and grandchildren, Dafydd Prichet and Hannah and Emily Burton. Memorial service will be held at ST. ALBAN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1486 Ryan Street in Victoria, on Saturday, October 30th at 3:00 p.m. Christopher will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
