HENDERSON, Clayr Willmott of Vernon, BC succumbed peacefully on November 23, 2010, at the age of 87. Clayr was born in Paris, Ontario on August 1, 1923. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941 to 1964 in both WW2 and the Korean War, becoming Chief Electrical Technician. He then went on to become an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor with BC Hydro for 19 years. He met Joyce Milner while attending the University of Alberta in Edmonton. They were married in 1944 and moved to Victoria. In 1992 they retired and relocated to Sorrento, BC and then Vernon in 2004. Joyce predeceased Clayr on December 2, 2004 and he never recovered from the loss of his beloved partner of fifty years.
Clayr was a tireless volunteer with the Masonic Lodge, Sorrento Lions Club, 104 Shuswap Squadron of the Air Force Association of Canada, Wilderness Watch, Royal Canadian Legion in Salmon Arm, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Salmon Arm Fish & Game Club. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, listening to music and playing the piano, boating, rebuilding old cars – especially jeeps, and flying his Cessnas all over North America.
Clayr was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grampa and friend and will be missed by all. He is survived by daughter Lynne & husband Kit Johaneson, their son Darin Johaneson & wife Jenny, their daughter Jasmine & son Evan all of Vernon; and their daughter Kristin Halsey & her husband Don, son Derian & daughter Dania of Sylvan Lake, Alberta; his son Brian Henderson & wife Sharon of Ymir, BC, their son Dylan, partner Taylor & sons Harper & Arlo also of Ymir; daughter Donna Macland and her daughter Renee Macland, partner Kris Kolby and their children Randi and Dustin, all of Fort St John. Clayr was the eldest in his family of 4 boys and is survived by one brother, Grant Henderson of Owen Sound, Ontario. He was predeceased by grandson Brett Macland of Pouce Coupe, BC in 1992. He loved them all. He also leaves behind his good friends: Ilsa Neumann of Vernon, his piano teacher Brenda Gaets, and his sweet, loyal canine friend, Argo.

A Celebration of Clayr’s Life will be held in the Tea Room of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Friday, December 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
