We regret to announce the passing of David Andrew Matovich of Vernon on March 6th, 2007, at the age of 72 years, after a courageous struggle with mesothelioma. He was born in Trail on May 11th, 1934.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Evelina, his son Gordon (Sue) of Vernon, and daughter, Constance (Christopher) Macdonald of Emigrant, Montana. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank (Margaret) of Burnaby, Al (Jana) of Montrose, Len (June) of Vernon and Don of Vernon. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Sylvia Vandekerkhove of Vernon, Nicholas Matovich of Vancouver, Sarah, Aimee, Angela and Margaret Macdonald of Emigrant, Montana. David is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Edith Matovich of Trail, his brother Norm of New Westminster, an infant sister Jean and his sister-in-law, Dina Matovich of Vernon. He worked as a stationary engineer at Cominco in Trail and until recently at the glass plant in Lavington. Other endeavors included The Village Green Hotel in Vernon and Beaver Auto Sales in Montrose. Dave enjoyed all aspects of life, and had particular fun with motor sports, photography, music and golfing. He recently enjoyed discovering his roots while travelling through Italy in 2004. He was well known for his sense of humour. Family was important to Dave and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Prayers will be held at Saint James Catholic Church in Vernon on Sunday, March 11th, 2007 at 5:30 PM and Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 12th, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Father Martin Peyton Celebrant. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Dave may do so to the BC Cancer Foundation, Suite 200-601 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4C2 or to the charity of their choice.
