It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bill Nestor on Feb. 20th, 2015. Following a short battle with cancer, Bill passed away in Vernon Hospice with his family by his side.

Bill was born on September 25th, 1934 in Cumberland, Maryland, USA. As a teenager, he moved with his family to California where he completed high school. After a brief stint in the US Navy, he enrolled at the University of California Berkeley and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Bill embarked on a very successful career in California as a mechanical, electrical and HVAC engineer and started his own company, Nestor Engineering.

After living for many years in the San Francisco Bay area, Bill resettled with his family in Coldstream, BC in 1993. He found work at IITS based in Kelowna and was a key player there for over 15 years as an electrical engineer. Bill displayed his many talents around the family acreage where he served as the electrician, plumber, mechanic, carpenter, and overall handyman. He and his wife Colleen loved dogs, and Bill owned and trained many German Shepherds over the years.

Outside of work, Bill was very active and involved in the community. He spent a number of years with Vernon Minor Football where he was fondly known by many as “Coach Bill”. His coaching career was highlighted by his involvement with three championship teams, in 2002 as head coach of the Vernon Vikings Junior Bantam squad, and in 2004 and 2005 as an assistant with the Vernon Wolverines Bantams. Between football seasons, Bill was also dedicated to Vernon Shotokan Karate, where over the years he worked up the ranks, eventually obtaining his first level of black belt, or Shodan, in November of last year.

Bill is survived by Colleen, his wife of 25 years; daughters, Lynnette (Bruce) Potter of Lafayette, California and Deborah Nestor of Pleasant Valley, West Virginia; his son, Bruce Nestor of Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren: Sarah, Dylan, and Cheryl Potter; his sister Becky (John) Smith of Campbell, California; brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas (Liz), and Patrick (Sharon) Ives of Qualicum Beach, and Bob (Alice) Ives of Victoria; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
