Denise Ena Poll (July 18, 1932 - January 16, 2021)

Denise was raised in Lumby, the youngest of 5 siblings. She is survived by son (Chris Poll), daughter (Marita Poll, husband Doug Grant), her sister (Terry Fellingham), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Denise was a teacher and librarian, and she spent the majority of her career at Beairsto Elementary School. Denise was a lifelong learner and reader, who brought passion to her work with children. For decades after her retirement, Denise would run into her former students and their faces would light up when they saw her. She would delight in hearing how they were doing.

After retiring, Denise spent several months each year in Oahu for many years. She created a part-time home and life there, even volunteering to help adults learn to read.

In retirement, Denise volunteered at Schubert Centre for 20 years, eventually developing a weekly program called "Fun Time", where seniors would gather and enjoy guest speakers, games, and various activities. She also enjoyed singing with a seniors choir.

Denise had several dear friends over her lifetime, including her beloved sisters (Terry Fellingham and Isabelle Cavin), Wanja Twan, and Martha Neumann.

Denise was an intelligent woman who encouraged conversation and critical thinking. She contributed to her community and made a difference in the lives of many people. Denise valued family, and had a delightful sense of humour. Denise Poll will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Square for the gentle care they provided Mom over the last six years.

A private gathering will be held for family in the fall. Donations are welcome, in lieu of flowers, to the Vernon Food Bank.
