In Loving Memory ~
It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Diane in the ICU at Vancouver General Hospital, after a brief and unexpected illness.
Diane was born in Calgary, preceding her twin brother David by 5 minutes. Raised in Canmore she enjoyed a wonderful life surrounded by the beauty of picturesque mountains and clear skies.
She enrolled in the University of Calgary and there she met her future husband Greg. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree she continued her education and became a Registered Nurse.
She later enrolled in Gonzaga University in Spokane where she obtained her Masters of Science Nursing with Honours - Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care. Diane was awarded the designation Sigma Theta Tau based on excellence in scholarship and exceptional achievement in nursing; the highest honour achievable in the profession.
Her career spanned from Head Nurse, Clinical Specialist and Instructor in Palliative Care and finally as a Director of Access at Vancouver General Hospital. Diane took great pride in her profession displaying the utmost care and compassion for her patients.
She taught and mentored many and was an example to those fortunate enough to have learned from her. Her dedication to nursing was evident in every facet of her career.
Diane was a kind, warm and generous person. She was thoughtful and never forgot a birthday or other special occasion. She got to know each of her family and friends as unique individuals, often sharing kind words and gifts picked out especially for just for them.
She loved animals and strongly advocated for their equity and protection by supporting several organizations such as the BCSPCA and The Humane Society. Diane will be greatly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.
Diane leaves to mourn her husband of 48 years Greg, her brother David (and Joanne) and their daughters Chelsea (and Chris) and Carissa (and Mike) as well their children Taylor, Derek and Blakeney, Ayla and Josie.
She also leaves to mourn mother-in-law Carole, sister-in-law Bonnie (and Doug) and her children Nicole (and Luke) and Devin, and sister-in-law Tracie (and Norm).
Diane was predeceased by her parents George and Edna and her older brother Bill.
As per Diane's wishes, a formal service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Diane's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kelowna BCSPCA.
The accompanying picture was taken by Diane's brother David; it depicts the captivating serenity of Three Sister's Mountains where her childhood home once stood in their shadow.
