ALLEN, Diane Elaine (nee Wilson)
May 16, 1929 – August 30, 2006
Passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital after a lengthy illness. Diane was born in Trail, BC, grew up in Vernon and enjoyed teaching primary school in Creston before marrying Stan in 1951 and moving to Victoria, to the home and garden she would cherish for the next 55 years.
An extraordinary homemaker, a dedicated and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Diane guided her family as she lived her life – with wisdom and strength, kindness and optimism, and a wonderful sense of humour. She touched many lives, sharing her love for learning, gardening, being creative and, especially, for the outdoors. Whether volunteering as Akela for the local Cub Scouts, travelling in the camper every June and September once Stan retired, or walking her dog, Katie, along the Gorge Waterway, young children and nature’s beauty always brought a twinkle
to her eye and solace to her soul.
Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Stan, son Tom, daughter Nancy Hosgood (Chris), grandchildren Iain, Bryn and Emma, Nancy’s mother-in-law Rosemary Hosgood, close family friend Bill, and many other relatives.
Diane’s family would like to thank the caregivers, doctors and staff at the James Bay Lodge and the RJH Watson/Kenning2 for their wonderful care and support over the past year and a half. Many thanks to Josi, a very special friend, for her
love and companionship.
A Memorial Service, celebrating Diane’s life, will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 2 pm at the First Memorial Chapel (1155 Fort Street, Victoria, BC) followed by a tea in the Holly Room. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Land Conservancy or Alzheimer Society would be much appreciated.
