It is with sadness and joy that we announce that Don MacDonald has completed his fifteen rounds of life. Born August 9th, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Donald and Donaldina MacDonald, he was raised on the family farm with his brothers and sisters near Moosehorn, Manitoba. Don is survived by his daughter, Nancy, his son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Patti, grandchildren: Brodie, Gord, and Vicki (Jeromy Kupser) and great granddaughters, Brynlee and Baeleigh, sisters, Margaret and Katherine, brother-in-law, Bill Inglis and sister-in-law, Jean MacDonald. He is also survived by his special family, Frank and Diane Bell, Bob and Sandra Bell, their children, Keegan and Jamie, Stacey and Scott MacKenzie, and their children, Rylee, Reagan and Skylar, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes “Bubs” (nee: Inglis) in 1979 and his brothers, Angus and William.
Don will be remembered for his many years in the sporting community as a coach in hockey, baseball and particularly boxing; coaching for almost sixty years in the Vernon and Westside Clubs.
Don was Vernon’s Good Citizen in 1989. He was inducted into the Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and was a life member of Vernon Minor Hockey. He was an army veteran and former member of the Legion and Elks and was known for his great sense of humor and fair play. We have lost a fantastic dad, grampa, great grampa, brother, uncle and friend.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vernon Alliance Church on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
