Donal Joseph Hayden, born at Ottawa, Ont. on Monday November 3, 1919, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Vernon, B.C., aged 83 years. Don joined the R.C.M.P. at age 18 in Ottawa, when he was transferred to Blairmore, AB, he met and married his wife Jean. He served overseas at the last year of WWII with the Armoured Division of the British Columbia Regiment. Don became City Secretary at Blairmore for 8 years. The family moved to Armstrong in 1965, when Don took over the City Clerks position and retired in 1978. He belonged to the Elks Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Past Master of Spallumcheen Lodge #13 A.F.&A.M. He was predeceased by his wife Jean in 1977, and sister and brother-in-law Noreen and Vickers Martin. He is survived by: daughter Claudia (Grant) Johnston of Vernon; sister Audrey Parker of Ottawa, nieces, Deborah and Wendy Zack, Esme Malanchuk, Virgina Calvert, his personal caregiver and her husband and son. Cremation. No Service by Don’s request. Urn to be interred with his wife Jean at Hillcrest Cemetery Crowsnest Pass, AB.
