January 22, 1937 – December 24, 2018
Every year on Christmas Eve we shall remember the birth of baby Jesus as well as the death of our loved one. Don passed away under the grateful care of hospice at the age of 81. He fought a valiant battle with cancer with Pat by his side from beginning to end.
Fondly remembering Don are his wife of 57 years, Patricia; daughter, Deena; granddaughter, Sophie; brother, William (Joanne); sister, Susan; sister-in-law, Chris; Auntie Jane; many nieces, and nephews, and his hockey buddies and friends.
Don was also known as “Bock” or “Donnie” by his friends and he was warmly called “Boone” by his Scottish grandfather which is a boy’s name meaning “my blessing”.
Don enjoyed playing goal in hockey and he always recalls riding his horse to hockey practice from the B.X. in the early forties. He loved downhill skiing and would get up to the mountain early to catch the fresh powder. He travelled to many ski resorts with Pat.
Don was passionate about life and fishing. He would tie his own flies and head for the high lakes to do some fly fishing. Don would spin cast for salmon in the Thompson River teaching Pat to do the same.
His fishing highlights were the high lakes in the Yukon, only accessible by air. Don claimed he knew more than the guide. Other memories were fishing in Belize with his nephew, Brian, and in Kitimat every spring with his friend, Andreas, from Germany.
Don completed his electrical apprenticeship with Okanagan Electric and completed his career with BC Hydro as a wireman.
Happy fishing Don.
Following cremation, there will be a private interment of Don’s ashes. Those who wish to remember Don may make a donation to North Okanagan Hospice Society.
