Donald George Dobie, a lifelong resident of Vernon, passed away on November 22 at his home on 26th Street. Donald was born at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on April 24, 1952. He attended My School from 1957 to 1970 and graduated to a supervisory position at Venture Training and moved into one of Vernon’s first group homes where he lived an independent life for many years. Donald was a pioneer in the cause that encourages handicapped individuals to live independently in the communities where they were born. He was a board member of People First and participated in an active community life. Donald was pre-deceased by his father Edgar earlier this year. He will be sadly missed by his mother, Connie, and brothers Edgar, David, Michael, Roger and their families. A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home at 2 pm Monday November 27 with a reception to follow at the Schubert Center at 3:30 pm. Donald’s family has requested that donations be to Venture Training in lieu of flowers.
