Donald “Don” Heppner

1933 ~ 2012

Don passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer on Aug. 19, 2012 at the age of 79.

He was born on Mar. 29, 1933 in Laird, Sask. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Alice of 58 yrs., his daughter Nancy (Daryl) of Vernon, B.C., eight granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, and son-in-law Murray of N.B., Sask.

Don started out farming in Sask. He said, “There has to be something better than milking cows.” He had gone to radio school & applied at Sask. Power & became a radio technician for 8 yrs. He then became a micro-technician for B.C. Hydro in Vernon for seventeen yrs. The family lived in Armstrong.

Don retired at the age of 50 and he and Alice moved back to Sask. His hobbies were woodworking, lots of fishing and music.

Music was always a big part of Don’s life. He played with good country bands in Vernon and when he moved back to Sask. he became a one man band and entertained in nursing homes, seniors homes and various churches.

After 23 yrs. and 2 moves, Don and Alice lived in North Battleford, Sask. He met 2 other musicians and formed a band called “Keeping It Country”. They played together for 6 yrs. In April 2011 Don cut 3 CD’s, one with his band and 2 solo, one gospel and one country. He was 78 yrs. old, he passed away a little over a yr later.

Don was predeceased by his sons; Terry Heppner, Rod Heppner, his daughter Val Wickstrand, parents Anton & Kate Heppner, sister Marge Friesen, and parents-in-law Peter & Tina Janzen.

Don’s funeral was held at Spiritwood Civic Centre in Sask. on Aug. 24, 2012. If anyone would like to contact Nancy, please do @ 250-308-4080.
