Donald Howard Levey died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital Saturday July 31st, 2010 after a long struggle with dementia. He is missed by his wife Edith, to whom he would have been married 60 years on August 20th, and by his children Bill, Mark, Ann, Margaret, John and their families and by his brother Archie in Cambridge, England. He was predeceased by his grand-daughter Tamar in 1995. He was born January 28th, 1926 in Kamloops, BC, second son of Howard and Ivie Levey. Following graduation in Kamloops he earned a BA from UBC and his Teachers’ Certificate from Vancouver Normal School. After teaching at several BC schools he moved to Armstrong in 1957 where he served as teacher, administrator, and counsellor prior to his retirement in 1981. Don was active in his community, serving the Central Okanagan Teachers’ Association, the Kindale Developmental Association and the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. Music was a big part of Don’s life. As well as singing in several choirs and directing High School musicals, he shared his vast repertoire of songs at home, in the car and around the campfire. He also enjoyed family camping, hiking and backpacking in the mountains. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 11th at 2:00 PM at Zion United Church in Armstrong (2315 Pleasant Valley Blvd) with tea to follow in the Church Hall. Reverend Bari Castle officiating. The family requests no flowers.
