ROWE, Donald Gordon
Vernon, BC – Donald Gordon Rowe died peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Gateby Care Residence in Vernon, BC. Don was born May 28, 1928. He leaves to mourn his loss: his daughters, Donna Rowe; Gayle Helfrich (John), Elaine Haughey (John); his sons, Wayne (Elizabeth) and Gordon; his brother Richard, sister-in-law Vera; six grandchildren; his nephews Stan (Gayle) and Dale (Kim); and many great nephews, nieces and close friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father, niece Aldona Bassett and nephew Ryan Rowe.
Born and raised in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, the son of William Fredrick and Mary Elizabeth (Bigelow) Rowe, he was a lifelong resident of British Columbia. In the early 1950’s Don Rowe got his education at the Chicago Vocational School in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He later became an instrument mechanic and worked in construction, mostly pulp mills, which took him to many countries. However, Donald Rowe’s true passion was always flying and aircraft — an avid pilot and airplane mechanic who frequented air shows and turned this passion for aviation into his second career.
A funeral service will be held in his honour at the Vernon airport on Thursday September 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Phone: 250 542 4333. Condolences may be offered at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com
