Doreen Bazell

It is with great sadness and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Gramma, Doreen Bazell on September 11, 2009.

After a short and uneven battle with cancer, Doreen passed away with her daughters by her side at Hospice House in Vernon.

Doreen was born in Surrey, England on June 25, 1926 and was the only child of Gertrude and Sydney Morrison. In 1943, she met her soul mate, Ray Bazell while he was stationed in England during WWII. At the end of the war, they married and Ray brought his bride back to Canada. In Vernon, BC, they built their house together and raised their family. Predeceased by her husband in 1983, she remained in the family home that she loved until August of this year.

Mom enjoyed a good read, crossword puzzles, British television, sunshine and spending time in her garden.

She will be remembered for her wicked sense of humour, her huge heart for all animals and most of all, her love for her family.

Doreen is survived by daughters Irene, Sue (Wayne Gnadt) and adored granddaughter Megan. She also leaves behind in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, and “Lucy”.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Vernon Hospice for the care and compassion shown during her brief stay there. A very special thank you to our amazing cousins Bernie and Laurie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Animal Care Society or SPCA.

Interment will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Wednesday, September 16 at 12:00 P.M., followed by a Memorial Service at the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the Tea Room.
