Doreen passed away at Hospice House in Vernon on August 31, 2010. Doreen was born is Wynyard Saskatchewan on June 15, 1935, the youngest of four daughters, to Irene and Hubert Keyes. As a child her family moved to Clayburn BC where she met and then later married her high school sweetheart, Gerry Creelman, on February 6, 1953. They made their way to Vernon in 1960 to put down roots to raise their young family.
She is lovingly remembered by Gerry; her 6 children Kathy, Greg, Rob (Mandy), Rich (Sue), Lester (Rachelle), Patric (Michael); her grandchildren Sarah, Adam, Chris, Eddie, Shandra, Kelly, Debbie, Ben, Alexa and Morgan; her great grandchildren Bradley, Thomas, Dylan, Keegan, Nicholas, Kristopher, and Kyler; her Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Cye; her 3 sisters Muriel Hunt, Ruth Bonn, Shirley Evans and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, father, granddaughter Lisa and great granddaughter Alicia.
All of whose lives have been profoundly touched and shaped by Doreen’s kind loving spirit. She was a generous Mother, a gentle grandmother, a loving wife, a steadfast sister, and a dear friend. Her Home, Hearth, Food and Music were the cornerstones of the family life she created. She opened her heart and her home to many people in many ways.
Her family was her life’s work. It wasn’t always in the grand extravagant gestures, but more often in the day to day simplicities, and the acts of gentle loving kindness where she shared her greatest gifts. She will be missed, honoured, and forever remembered, for the woman she was to us all.
Her family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Fred Dyck and to the staff and volunteers at Hospice House for the care and compassionate loving kindness they offered during Doreen’s final days.
A Celebration of Life was held at Schubert Centre on September 2, 2010. For those wishing to do so the family requests that donations be made in memory of Doreen to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27th Avenue, Vernon, BC, V1T 1S4.
