Doreen Iris Bell

BELL, DOREEN IRIS

(nee: Dibley, Rosenberry, Wrightman)

Regretfully we announce that Doreen Bell, born February

24, 1917 in Minitonas, Manitoba, passed away suddenly

at home in Canterbury Court, Vernon, B.C. on April 15,

2008 at the age of 91 years or as she would say “in my

92nd year”. Doreen lived in Victoria and Tahsis, B.C. before

moving to Vancouver in 1956 where she was a long

time resident until moving to Vernon, in June 2004, to

be near her daughter, Pat, when her health deteriorated

and she needed more assistance. In The Pas, Manitoba

she trained as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital. The last

twenty-one years of her working years she spent at the

Workers’ Compensation Board in Vancouver. Doreen is

survived by her loving daughters: Pat (David) Silversides

of Vernon, Joan Robertson of Vancouver and her stepdaughter,

Joan Firkins (Donna) of Victoria; granddaughters:

Linda Hemrich (Rick Davidson) of Port Coquitlam,

Cathy Silversides (Blair Polischuk) of Courtney and Karen

(Wade) Christie of Kelowna; four great-grandchildren:

Amanda, Jessica, Max and Jay. She was predeceased by

her husbands: Ted Bell, Art Wrightman and David Rosenberry;

three sisters: Mabel, Winnie and Alice; grandsonin-

law, Sean Hemrich and her faithful canine companion,

Dukey. We wish to thank the staff and residents at

Canterbury Court for their friendship and kindness to

Doreen even if she complained that she didn’t get roast

beef and Yorkshire pudding every night as she wanted.

Many thanks to Dr. Tim Gilhooly of Vernon for his care.

Doreen was a great lady, sharp as a tack to the end and

will be missed very much. A private family service will

take place at a later date. Those wishing to do so may

make a memorial donation in Doreen’s memory to The

Salvation Army or the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
