Doreen May Gordon

We regret to announce the passing of Doreen May Gordon (nee MacDonald) at Hospice House in Vernon on August 31, 2009 at age 88 years. Doreen is survived by Jack, her husband of 60 years, daughter Linda and son Donald, both of Calgary. Three grandchildren, Scott, Heather and Kimberley. Her sister Bea Thompson. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She is predeceased by her sister Gwen Beck and brother Alan MacDonald.

Doreen was born in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan and she led a very interesting and full life. As a young woman she was very active in sports. She loved to play softball and was offered a position during the war to play ball in the States on a professional ladies team which she declined for family reasons. Doreen married Jack in Regina in 1949 and shortly thereafter moved to Victoria, BC where Donald was born. She then moved to Vancouver where Linda was born and in 1964 the family moved to Vernon BC where she became very active in the community.

Doreen was a full-time mother and throughout her life her family was always her top priority. In spite of this she managed to find the time and energy to involve herself in many community activities such as Community Concerts, the United Church Women and Explorers. She continued to enjoy her sports including curling, five pin bowling and lawn bowling.

Doreen loved people and had the great capacity to brighten other’s lives.
