Doreen Elenor Page, 86, passed away on June 20, 2016 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 22, 1930 in New Westminster, BC to Norwegian immigrant parents, Gustav and Sigrid (Liseth) Sovak.

Doreen grew up in Coquitlam, BC. She graduated with the first graduating class at Coquitlam High School in 1947. She was employed as a switchboard operator for telephone (BC Tel, Okanagan Telephone and Telus) companies from high school until taking an early retirement when the Vernon office closed. She was a Vernon resident for 40 years. After retirement she and Dick became snowbirds spending winter months at their home in Yuma, Arizona until Dick could no longer travel. She spent 5 years living with her daughter and son-in-law until poor health necessitated full time care.

Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arvid, sisters Grace (Bud) Powell of Burnaby, BC and Sybil (Fred) Morelli of Langley, BC. Her 20 year partner Dick Vickerson partner passed away in July 1998.

Doreen is survived by her daughter Barbara-Ann (Brian) Burgess of Vernon, BC, her grandson Aaron (Maegan) York. Sadly, her first great-grandchild (it’s a girl) is not due until October. Nieces, Kathryn (Eric) Tycho of Terrace, BC, Anne (Craig) Hamblin of West Kelowna, BC and Joy (Wilbur Hong) Powell of Coquitlam, BC and Morelli nephews, Brian (Laura) of New York, USA, Gary (Lynda), Keremeos, BC, Ricky (Sweden), Mike (Heather) Aldergrove, BC and Joe (Shawna) in Langley, BC, cousins Garth (Lillian) Liseth of Pender Island, BC, Arnie and Keith Liseth of Quadra Island, BC further survive her.

Sincere thanks to all that cared for Doreen. Alexandra and Fernando who lovingly cared for her in their private care home until she was hospitalized 4 weeks before she passed away. To all the staff on the 6th floor of VJH for making her last month as comfortable as possible, your compassion and professionalism was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
