Doris Elaine Smirl (nee: Nelson, Beadle, McTavish)
July 24, 1930 – July 30, 2008
With great sadness and a profound sense of loss, we announce that Doris passed away suddenly, while visiting family and friends in the Ft. St. John area.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Jim Beadle, her son,Butch McTavish, and her brother, Cecil Nelson.
Doris will be sadly missed by her husband, Bill, her sister, Opal (Jim), and her children; Dale (lYvette), Tiny (Wayne),
(Helen), Lana (Phil), Pam (Kent), Terry (Joan) and Glenna (Ron).
As will she be lovingly remembered by her extended family: Bill’s children; Vicky (Dick), Kelly, Desmond, Steve (Joanne),Shannon (Ted), Holly (Ron) and Dennis (Nelia), as well as her 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Her many friends, near and far, will also hold her in their hearts.
Doris lived a full and active life. She mixed hard work with
horses, curling, bingo, bridge, scrabble, sewing and travel. She was a devoted community member who always put her social, organizational and bookkeeping skills to good use. From leading Brownies and Girl Guides in Dawson Creek to trail rides and the Doe River Rodeo, from the Goodlow Curling Club and the Fort St. John Oil Wives to the Wagon West Social Club in Arizona and the Enderby Seniors’ Centre, where she received their Certificate of Appreciation.
Mom lived life her own way and her strength and love have uniquely touched each of our lives. We will all truly cherish our special memories of her.
