Dorothy Marie Bede passed away peacefully at her home in Sicamous, BC onThursday, November 2, 2006, at the age of 79 years.
Dorothy was born at Vernon, BC on March 28, 1927 to Valentine and Dorothea Schmidt, longtime pioneers of Vernon. She grew up in Vernon and had worked for Safeway from 1943 to 1953 and was employed there when Safeway was becoming unionized. She resided in Revelstoke for many years, moving to Sicamous in 1981. She was confirmed May 24, 1953 in the Anglican Church and and had been a devoted member.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Zolti “Gilbert”; two children, Gilbert of Calgary and Sharon (Murray McDonald) of Kelowna; beloved granddaughter, Breanna McDonald, who was the joy of Dorothy’s life; brother, Harold (Marlene) Schmidt of Vernon and Gertrude Jevome of Trail; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her infant son, four brothers, Dan, Walter, Reinhold and Valentine; two sisters, Cecilia “Tillie” and Anna.
The funeral service will be held from St. John’s Anglican Church, Salmon Arm on Thursday, November 9, at 10:00 am, with the Reverend Doctor Ted Celiz officiating.
