Dorothy Garner

Dorothy passed away peacefully at Vernon on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Dorothy was

one of six girls born to Richard Glen Purver and Francis Purver of Clayburn, BC. She was born

Sept. 05, 1922 in New Westminster, BC. She lived her formative years in the Clayburn area

(between Abbotsford and Mission), moving to Vancouver at age 20 to work for the “American

Can Co.”(1942). Dorothy and Gordon Alfred Garner met in 1943 at a dance, and married on

Oct. 14, 1944. They moved to Enderby in 1945, where Dorothy resided until 2005, when she

moved into an assisted living center in Vernon. During her 60 year residency in Enderby, she

worked in the Bank of Montreal, Doctor’s Offi ce, Reimer’s Variety Store, and the Okanagan

Library. Dorothy was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and St. George’s

Anglican Church. Her favorite pastimes were painting, sketching and singing in the Church

Choir. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons Rick (Jeanne) of Kelowna, Kirk (Myrna)

of Taber, AB and Brent (Marilyn) of Armstrong as well as her grandchildren Gage (Rachel)

and Marlo, Terri and Shane and her sister Emily Craigmyle of Surrey. She will be sadly missed

by her family and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by husband Gordon Garner in 1990,

and her four sisters Maize Haver of Abbotsford, Margie Forrest of Abbotsford, Nellie Abrams

of Surrey and Edna Purver of Clayburn. The family wishes to thank all the staff on the third

fl oor and ICU at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their excellent care. In lieu of fl owers, donations

may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held at the

Senior Citizens Complex in Enderby, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2008. Reverend

Cory Rundell offi ciating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Alternative Funeral
