DOROTHY HIBBERT

We regret to announce the passing on Friday, April 11th, 2003 of Dorothy Hibbert at the age of 85 years at Noric House, Vernon, BC. Dorothy is survived by her loving family; her son Garth (Jeanette) Hibbert of Vernon; her daughter Gloria (Leonard) Heydlauff of Manyberries, Alberta; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Irene Willows of Meadow Lake, Sask.; a brother-in-law Morris (Delores) Peterson of Canora, Sask., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Hibbert on November 24th, 2002. Dorothy was born in Cadbury, Wiltshire, England on June 12, 1917 - an only child. She immigrated to Canada in 1924 together with her mother and father. They settled on a homestead in the Claire district of central Saskatchewan where adjusting to the harsh Canadian prairie winters, the shorter growing season and the tough times certainly created many hardships. The family moved to the Rose Valley district of Saskatchewan in 1926 where Dorothy finished her schooling completing Grade 12 by correspondence. She was employed at the Rose Valley Post office and then worked at the Prince Albert sanitarium. She married Bill Hibbert on April 12, 1940 in Rose Valley. During the war years Bill and Dorothy moved many times across Canada (Bill was in the RCAF) and finally settled down in Wadena, Saskatchewan after the war where they started their family. Hospital administration career opportunities for Bill with the federal civil service moved Dorothy and Bill to Regina for some years, then finally to Winnipeg where Bill retired. Dorothy and Bill retired to Vernon, BC in 1974. Dorothy was always active in the church, teaching Sunday school or working with other church groups. She always loved gardening and flowers and many beautiful plants and blooms could be found around the yard and in the house. Bill and Dorothy moved to Polson Extended Care facility in 1999 and then to Noric House in 2000. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14th, 2003 at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Henry Friesen officiating. Internment followed in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A reception was held in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home (250-542-4333). Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 104-3402 27th Ave., Vernon, BC V1T 1S1, as a token of remembrance. Messages of sympathy may be emailed to pvfh@canada.com
