October 19, 1946 - July 18, 2021
Dorothy Mabel Armstrong was born on Oct 19, 1946 in Mission, B.C., and passed away on July 18th, 2021, at Gateby Residence in Vernon, B.C., after a long, brave and very spunky tussle with dementia.
Dorothy was one of five children born to Vera and Fred Eckert. She grew up with family in the Lumby and Vernon area. She worked at the A&W drive-in in Vernon, where she met her future husband Ivan. They married on July 3rd, 1965.
Their first child, Tammie, was born on May 14th, 1967, with a son, Jason, following on December 11tth, 1969.
Dorothy enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and was an extremely accomplished seamstress, applying her skill to many wedding and graduations dresses, some of them for her own family members. She was a valuable member of the Sears staff in Vernon for decades.
Dorothy's most cherished roles were as a wife, a mom, grandma, sister and aunt, loving on her family and leaving them with everlasting memories. She was hilariously blunt, quite often sported a short fuse, but always left those who touched her heart with a feeling that they were valued and loved. She never let her condition rob her of joy and humor.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Vera, siblings Gordon, Ken, Wendy, and brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Gladys. Dorothy is survived by her husband Ivan, her sister Diane, brother-in-law Victor, children Tammie (Len) and Jason (Nicole), grandchildren Christian (Kirsten), Anisah (Zak), Ally (Caleb), Kaylea, and Hannah, plus numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021, 11am at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road in Vernon, under the care of Dignity Memorial with Pastor Jeremy Kinniburgh officiating. A fellowship tea will follow at the Elks Hall in Vernon (3103 30th street). The Armstrong and Egely families would like to express sincere appreciation to all the staff at the Gateby residence in Vernon for their amazing care and kindness in taking care of Mom, especially during such an unprecedented time.
