April 30, 2023
It is in sadness that the family of Doug Ross announce his passing on April 30, 2023.
At the age of 92, Dad was predeceased by his sons Gary and Phil; grandson Sean; his parents; and his four siblings.
He is survived by his children: Tori, Deb Park (Darryl), Mike (Bea) and Steve (Bev); as well as six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Dad was born in Melita, MB, one of five children. He grew up on the family farm. As a young man, he moved to Edmonton, AB and began his career. He spent his career in the airline industry. His transfers took our family to Grande Prairie, Dawson City, Prince George, Smithers, Whitehorse, and finally Kelowna.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dad enjoyed bowling, curling, baseball, and of course hockey! He spent many days on the cold outdoor rinks in Alberta and Whitehorse coaching his sons. Thankfully, Kelowna had an indoor rink!
Dad loved music, especially country. Musicians visiting his care homes were always a highlight, but his favourite was definitely Sally! He also loved to dance, and it was a delight to see the staff "wheelchair dance" with him as his physical mobility declined.
Dad enjoyed a good joke, and enthusiastically wore costumes. He insisted on having one at his care home residence for Halloween.
Prior to and during retirement, Dad enjoyed cruising. He loved sunny destinations and definitely the buffet! He loved playing most games, but enjoyed winning them even more! Dad was very social and participated in many activities at his recent care homes. The family thanks the staff at The Village at Mill Creek for their gentle, compassionate care in Dad's final days, and the staff at his previous home, Pine Acres, for making him feel so welcome and happy in his first care home.
So, Dad has finished his journey here and will no doubt be dancing in the Heavens. Cheers to a long life and many treasured memories!
At family's request, no service will be held.
