We regret to announce the death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on February 20, 2004, of Mr. DOUGLAS EARL BOYD, at the age of 79 years. Born in Innisfail, Alberta, Doug was a resident of Innisfail and Red Deer for most of his life. He will be remembered by many as the caretaker at Gates United Church in Red Deer for many years. Doug was a veteran, serving during the Second World War in the Canadian Army, and was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a talented handyman, and loved camping and traveling. Since they moved to Vernon, Doug has been active as a volunteer at the Schubert Centre. Doug was predeceased by three brothers: Glen, Roy, and Fred. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Betty; daughter Carol Kitchen and son Donald (Gayle) Kitchen. He is also survived by grandsons: Cameron, James, and Christian and four great-grandchildren; brothers Lyle (Shirley) of Innisfail and Art of Ranfurley, Alberta. There will be no public service in accordance with Doug’s wishes. Private family services will be held at a later date in Alberta. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Doug to the Baerg-McMurtrie Cancer Clinic at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101-32 St., Vernon, V1T 5L2. Cremation arrangements are in the care of VERNON FUNERAL HOME 250-542-0155.
