Douglas Vincent

VINCENT, Douglas Vaughan

“Weep not for he is gone, smile instead

that he has been”.

It is with great sadness that on November 29th, 2016 it came time for Doug to say goodbye to the love of his life, wife Maureen; his amazing mother Eileen Vincent (of 95 years); daughters: Corrie (Rob) Bauml, Wendy (Brent) Magnus, Sarah (Vince) Spoor, and Maureen’s sons, Jes (Lindsay) and Darrin Hatt; Doug’s brothers: Geordie (Betty-Lynn), Michael (Kathy), and Gerry (Teri); grandchildren: Cathou, Cailee, Brandon, Abbey, Holly, and god-son Thomas; many nephews, nieces and (Corrie’s mother) Joyce (Brian) Chalmers. Douglas Vaughan Vincent was predeceased by his father, George Vincent and by (Wendy and Sarah’s mother) Therese Gosselin.

Doug took to his life, work and careers with zeal. Many friends were made along the way. From work at Eatons, The Bay, Chamber of Commerce (of Jasper, Vancouver, Thunder Bay, Vernon), wine sale rep for Larch Hills, Marriage Commissioner and exciting years at The Vancouver Board of Trade, Prince George Correctional Centre, and RCMP Detention Facilities of Vernon, Kelowna, Enderby and Armstrong.

Although, born in Gladstone, Manitoba, many moves and many homes later brought Doug to Vernon to “the place he liked best” in Coldstream where he spent his last years with his wife, Maureen.

Doug loved to work but also to play. He was well known for his rendition of “The Cremation of Sam McGee” which he often performed in full makeup, parka, mukluks and fur gloves. Doug loved to bowl, play bridge and golf with Maureen and their close friends. He was the number one fan at the grandkids hockey and soccer games. He loved to host family and friends around the pool in his beautiful backyard.

His wish was to bring a smile or a laugh to someone every day and often added levity to the Cancer Relaxation Group that they attended. He was blessed with a wonderful close and caring family. He’d often say, when asked how long he and Maureen had been married, “Not long enough.”

Thank you to Dr. Solano (Surgeon), Dr. Humphreys (Oncologist), and all the doctors who cared for him, the cancer clinic staff, the Community Palliative Care nurses, the caring staff of VGH Level 6, friend Rick Trehearne, and the staff of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. Special thank you to the loving care extended to Doug and his family during his final days at Vernon Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Doug may do so to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.

The Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on December 10th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
