In Loving Memory ~
The family of Duane Mathew Anderson is very saddened to announce his passing on November 18th, 2024 at the age of 80 years.
Duane was born in Victoria, BC in 1944 to Gladys Cadden and John Anderson. When he was a young child, he moved to Lumby, BC and spent most of his childhood and teenage years there.
He also spent time in Enderby, BC with his aunt and uncle, Edna and Reino ("Ray") Koskimaki, and their three children. He developed a close bond with his Aunt Edna and Uncle Ray, and his cousins during the time that he was there.
In 1965 he married Beverley Neufeld of Lumby, BC and they started their life together in Vernon, BC. Soon thereafter, they began raising a young family. When Duane was in his early 20's, he started a career in sales at Archie Fleming Ltd. He was very successful and well-liked throughout the North Okanagan/Shuswap.
After several different sales roles in the cleaning supply industry, Duane and his wife Beverley worked tirelessly to grow their own business, A&G Supply Ltd., which is still in operation in Vernon today.
He was a very accomplished businessman, and was very well-regarded and respected by staff, customers, and by his suppliers.
In his spare time, and in retirement, Duane enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. He spent many years with his wife and two children, in the1970's and early 1980's, in the Sugar Lake and Keefer Lake areas of the Monashee Mountains.
In the 2000's, he was able to do so once again with Beverley and his two grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He taught his grandchildren the simple joys of being immersed in nature, and he taught them how to fish. He also taught his grandson the skills needed to fix just about anything that needed fixing.
Duane had a passion for animals, and they held a special place in his heart. He took in many stray cats and gave them a home. He ensured that he always had a large box of dog treats in his truck, in case he met a canine in his travels that he felt was deserving of a treat. Let it be said that dog treats were given out by him throughout the North Okanagan in abundance.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 59 years: Beverley Anderson, his daughter Stephanie Anderson and her husband Andreas Hirschkorn, his son Clayton Anderson and his wife Keiko Anderson, and their children Keila, and Ken Anderson.
Duane will be remembered for his sharp wit, relentless work ethic, and unwavering love for his family and friends, and for animals. The family would like to thank Rodger Broadland, who became a close friend to Duane in his later years. They solved many of the world's problems together, and Rodger kept Duane in good company.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Waldron, whose compassion and patience was admirable.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Duane's name to the Arthritis Society of Canada, the British Columbia Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the British Columbia SPCA.
A Celebration of Duane's Life and gathering of family and friends will be held in 2025 in the spring or the summer, which was Duane's favourite time of the year.
The memory of Duane will live on in the hearts of his family. He will always be remembered, and never will be forgotten.
