HICKS, Edith Harriet
1915 – 2008
We regret to announce the passing of Edith Harriet Hicks at Noric House on December 28th, 2008.
Edith was born on September 8th, 1915 in Belfast, Ireland. She emigrated to Canada with her mother and stepfather when she was only three years old. Edith’s stepfather, a machinist with the CN Railway, had several jobs working across Canada. The family eventually moved to Prince Rupert where Edith met her future husband, Wilf, who worked for the W. H. Malkin Company. Edith and Wilf were married on May 9th, 1939. While working for Malkins, they were transferred to Nelson, Kamloops and Vernon. Edith was a hairdresser, worked with Welcome Wagon and volunteered for the United Church and the Gyro Club. Edith and Wilf did a great deal of traveling. They spent many winters in Palm Dessert and took several cruises to a number of tropical islands.
Edith’s “special gift” was being kind. She had many friendships that lasted all of her life. She loved having fun and had a sharp, endearing sense of humor. She lost Wilf on May 2nd, 2003 at Noric House where they lived since 2001.
Edith will be remembered with love by her only son, Ken (Cindy); her sister, Isabelle Heatherington of Seattle, Washington and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date; once traveling weather improves.
Memorial contributions in memory of Edith may be made to Noric House, 1400 Mission Road, Vernon, B.C. V1T 9C3 or to Trinity United Church, 3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon, B.C. V1T 6G8.
