Edward “Walter” McKay
born December 16th, 1918
It is with great sadness and heavy heart that we announce the passing of my husband of 64 years on February 26th, 2007. Although he was a longtime resident of Vernon they raised their family in Prince George. He is survived by his loving wife Mabel and daughters Norma (Glenn) Goodwin of Victoria, Donna Quiring of Vernon, daughter-in-law, Jane McKay of Prince George, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter was predeceased by his infant son Maurice in 1947, his daughter Marilyn in 1965, his granddaughter Stacey in 1971 and his son Arthur in 2003. He will be well remembered by the Hockey fans in Vernon, ever a faithful fan of his grandsons Darcy (Lisa) Quiring, their children, Hailey and Hillary, and Tyler (Jennifer) Quiring, and their children Talia and Steel. He was a great supporter of his grandson Kevin McKay of Red Deer, AB and his granddaughter Shannon McKay of Prince George who just graduated from UNBC.
God looked around his garden and found an empty place; He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest,
His garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering; He knew you were in pain and knew you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult; he closed your tired eyes
He whispered to you “Peace Be Thine”
and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free from pain, we would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You have left us precious memories;
your love will be our guide.
You live on through your children,
You’re always by our side,
It broke our hearts to lose you but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you on the day
God called you home.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on Friday, March 2nd, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with The Reverend Canon Chris Harwood-Jones officiating. Cremation. A reception will follow in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room.
