Edward Arthur (Ted)
12 October, 1924 – 22 August, 2008
We regret to announce Ted’s death last Friday at
Vernon Hospice House, after prolonged
complications and illness resulting from a stroke.
Ted was born in Newry, County Down, Northern
Ireland. After completing his engineering degree
at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, he married
Sheila Anne Low (Sally) of County Tipperary, Ireland.
Together they immigrated to South Africa where
Ted began work as an electrical engineer. He and
his young family later moved on to Canada, fi nally
settling in Vernon, BC. Ted’s career developed at
BC Hydro, where he participated in critical years
of expansion of electrical power throughout the
interior of the province. His love of motorcycles in
his early years later turned to cars and fi nally to the
design, construction and fl ying of model airplanes.
Ted leaves his wife of sixty years, Sally, and his four
children: Anna France (Douglas) of Perth, Ontario;
Amanda Miller (Michael) of Vancouver; Michael
Parkinson of Coldstream; and Maureen Parkinson
of Vancouver. He also leaves his four
grandchildren, John and Richard France and Sarah
and Max Miller.
Ted’s funeral service will be held at All Saint’s
Anglican Church on Friday, August 29 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of fl owers, donations may be made to the
Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the
North Okanagan Hospice Society.
