It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Penno at the age of 77 years. Ed passed away peacefully at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, with his devoted wife Elizabeth (Betty) by his side.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Betty; his children Tracy (Brian), Cindy and Michael (Heather); his grandchildren Owen, Hannah, Skyler, MacKenzie and Bentley; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Lydia, his sister Rosemarie and his brother George.
Ed was born in Vernon, BC where he grew up on the family apple orchard. After high school, Ed attended the University of British Columbia for two years with the intent of becoming a Pharmacist. However, his father's illness brought him back to Vernon to help work the orchard, and ultimately, he was an orchardist for the rest of his life.
Ed was a jack of all trades and was extremely skilled at whatever he did. Plus, he could be counted on having the tool to do the work! He had the ability to fix almost anything and was willing to lend a helping hand to do so. He felt it was important to share his knowledge and taught those who were interested in learning.
Ed was also passionate about aviation and earned his pilot's licence. He took any opportunity to enjoy his love of flying. He never did finish the one-seater airplane he started building, but what he did complete was an accomplishment.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
In respecting Ed's wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a future date when larger gatherings are permitted. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may donate in memory of Ed to the BC Cancer Foundation by visiting www.bccancerfoundation.com
