It is with deep sadness that the family of Edwin Lawrence Schneider announce his passing early Monday morning, October 3rd, 2016. After a long battle with cancer but with family by his side, Ed left us peacefully and now embarks on his next journey.

Ed’s parting will leave a huge hole in the lives of many; family, long time friends, business customers and acquaintances over many years. Ed is survived by his parents Wilfred and Alta Schneider in Armstrong, his life partner, Corinne in Vanderhoof, their daughter Stacey, (Aaron), and two grandchildren Liam and Payton, in Prince George. He is also leaves two sisters Ginny in Prince George, and Sindee, (Ken) in Williams Lake.

Ed was born and raised in Vanderhoof BC and at the age of 16, he left to play hockey in Alberta. Ed played for several teams over the next few years and later attended NAIT for his plumber and gasfitter tickets. Ed took his newly acquired skills to Yellowknife NWT where he fell in love with the north. Vanderhoof eventually called him back in 1984 to open his own business, Schneider Services.

For many years he played and coached minor hockey while serving Vanderhoof and the surrounding communities with his local plumbing and heating business. Recently, gold prospecting took Ed back to the wilderness where he was reminded of the north and days spent hunting the local area as a child.

Ed was a private man who did not look for acknowledgement or praise, while genuine in his care for others he quietly supported local groups and activities. Ed’s early mornings usually started with a drive around town before other people got their day started – we used to joke about him being the “town lookout” to make sure the community was “ok”.

Ed’s last wish was that, everyone whose life he touched, remember him in by living each day to the fullest and appreciating what life has to offer.

Service details will be determined at a later date. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to: The Ruby VanAndel Cancer Clinic, The Vanderhoof Palliative Care or a local charity of your choice.

To us who remain: We carry on.

Always do things that bring you happiness and joy.
