June 30, 1933 - May 19, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family of Edwin Theodor (Ted) Enns announce his passing on May 19th, 2023 just shy of his 90th birthday.
Ted was born on June 30th, 1933 in Hague, Saskatchewan to George and Marie Enns. At the age of 5 years the family moved to Sardis, B.C. to a farm in the Greendale area where they were part of a large Mennonite Community, many of them related to the Enns family. In the early 1960's, Ted married Muriel Bystrom and became a father to three children. After an injury at work, Ted went to barber school and moved his young family to Kamloops in 1965, then to Vernon in late 1967.
Ted met Pete Guidi, owner of Butcher Boys, through his Real Estate uncle, Larry Siemens and convinced Guidi to let Ted open his own shop at the BX Motors garage location next to the Butcher Boys property. Ted named it the Country Squire Barber Shop and continued to serve Vernon customers for 56 years, later moving to the 29th Street location when Butcher Boys expanded.
Ted was a supportive member of the Christadelphian community and always had a smile or a joke for those around him. He loved to be surrounded by friends and family and was always working on a project. After shop hours, he could be found working in their fields with the cows on their Lavington acreage, or in the gardens of their current home in downtown Vernon. Ted was always fixing or improving something for his family or friends.
Ted will be lovingly remembered by his wife Muriel, his daughter Bonita (David) Stager, his sons Calvin (Jeannette) Enns and Randy (Sharon) Enns along with 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom enjoyed their first haircut from the loving hands of their Papa.
A Celebration of Ted's Life will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 27th, 2023 at 1:00 PM followed by a Reception at the Christadelphian Hall (2200 40th Street, Vernon, B.C.) at 2:30 PM.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Interior Health Nurses (Gabbi, Rudy and Emily) for their compassionate, gentle care in Ted's final days at home with his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ted can be made to Meal-a-Day.org or to the charity of your choice.
