Eileen Mitchell (nee Kennaugh), loved friend to many, beloved sister to Marjorie Meredith, aunt to Eloise Meredith MacDonald and cherished wife to Fred Mitchell, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2007. Eileen was born in Liverpool, England, the elder sister to Marjorie. She completed her education with honours and began her teaching career in England before coming to Canada in 1952. She met Fred while on a teaching exchange in the Lower Fraser Valley. They married in 1955 and shortly afterwards moved to Abercraig Farm on Schubert Road which they farmed for 50 years. After settling in Armstrong, Eileen taught in the local high school for many years. She was an avid Minerva Club member as well as devoting many years to reading programs for children and seniors. A surprise 40th wedding anniversary was celebrated to the skirl of bagpipes at Abercraig Farm in August 1995. Her empathy, humour and insight have enriched the lives of many – students, friends and loved ones. Her home and heart were always open. A Memorial Tea will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday,
June 2, 2007, at the Odd Fellows Hall, Armstrong. Donations to the Okanagan Regional Library, Armstrong Branch, or a charity of your choice, may be made in lieu of flowers. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Service, Armstrong, (250)546-7237.
