Eldon Lemar (Slim) Sherk. Died December 19, 2006, of a stroke at the age of 87, in Ioco B.C. Dad was born in Didsbury, Alberta in 1919. He spent most of his boyhood on the homestead near Jarvie, Alberta. In 1933, his family relocated to Vernon, B.C. While the family went by automobile, Dad, age 14, rode the freight train west, in charge of the family farm animals and machinery. After serving in the Canadian Army during WWII, Dad ran his own sawmill and hardware store for many years in the Lavington area. In the 1960’s, he began a new life as a bush pilot, flight instructor and aircraft engineer. During his long career he logged many thousands of hours flying time. Dad was a founding member of the Vernon Flying Club, and will be missed by aviators all over Western Canada. In his later years, he owned and operated Springhouse Aviation at Williams Lake. Not many people get to live their dream. Dad did.
Dad was loved and will be deeply missed by his children Barb Anderson of Vernon, Gary Sherk of Kamloops, Deeny Grazier of Vernon, and Judy Nickel of Quesnel, as well as a great number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves also his brothers Don, Earl, Laverne (Dutch), Denny and Ron, and his sisters Evelyn and Mickey. He was predeceased by his wife Jeanne, his
father Lorne, his mother Almeta, and
his brothers Mervyn (Casey) and Robert.
