ELIZABETH CRUIKSHANK

CRUIKSHANK

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear “Auntie Beth” Elizabeth Cruikshank on February 13th, 2008. She was born on January 10th, 1903 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba where she grew up the eldest of six siblings. At the age of 13 she left school to help out on the family farm where she became an accomplished cook and housekeeper. She home-schooled herself and one of her passions was writing poetry. Never married, she moved to B.C. at the age of 48 where she began her career as a care giver. She was finally coaxed into retirement at the age of 77 and moved to Vernon to be close to her youngest sister, Evelyn Atwood. For the last 8 years she resided at Gateby where she was on the receiving end of all the care and love she herself had given. The staff at Gateby have been a god-send and we cannot thank them enough for the special care they gave our Auntie Beth. Your never-ending patience and sense of humor was appreciated so much by us all and now maybe the dining room will be quiet. Predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Cruikshank, brothers: Bob, Orville, George and Eldon Cruikshank and sisters: Velma Sutton, and Evelyn Atwood. She will be sadly missed by her two nieces: Bernice and Lynn Atwood and several nephews from Manitoba. By request, there will be no service

“In memory’s garden plots

grow sweet forget-me-nots.

Bright as the sky:

whispering they seem to say,

We will not pass away – –

nor fade and die.”
