Elizabeth Louise Cunningham 1931 – 2007
Betty passed away peacefully on October 16, 2007 at the age of 76 in the presence of her family and with the support and care of the wonderful staff of Noric House. She is lovingly remembered by her son Peter Yacooshin, her daughter Judy (David) Klassen, her granddaughters, Eva and Rachel (Shayne), as well as her dear friends: Delores Sabbadin, Marguerite Hughes and Blaine Busslinger. So many she loved dearly had gone before her; her son John; her sisters, Jean and Bubbles; her girlfriends, Agnes, Delta and Mima.
Betty was born September 15, 1931 in Red Deer, Alberta. She married Roger Yacooshin in 1951 and moved to the family farm in Eckville where she raised three children. During this time she also worked as the Hospital Administrator, a job she loved.
In 1969 Betty moved to Calgary with her children. In 1971 she met and fell in love with Don Chauncey. They eloped after a whirlwind courtship, however their marriage ended tragically when Don passed away from cancer in 1976.
Over the next decade Betty traveled and made many friends. She moved to Vernon in 1980 to be closer to her family. She and her grandchildren enjoyed countless hours in the pool and playing games. In 1987, at her 40th high school reunion, she was reunited with her dear old friend Perry Cunningham. They married in 1988 and lived in Vernon, spending their winters in Arizona. Perry passed away in March 2006.
Betty was a wonderful, selfless and loyal friend, wife, mother and grandmother. She spent most of her life caring for those she loved, always putting their needs above her own. She will be forever missed.
