With great sadness we announce the passing of Eileen Seabrook on April 24, 2009. Eileen (“E”) was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was born in Bremner, Alberta on Christmas Day 1914. She married Gilbert Seabrook on August 28, 1937 and, following several years in Edmonton and Regina, they moved to Vernon in 1952.
Eileen’s greatest joy was her family and she delighted in planning family get-togethers. She was committed to the Christian Science Church and it’s teachings and always saw the best in people. During her many years in Vernon, Eileen was a member of the Schubert Centre Society, Vernon Rest Home, N.O.C.L.S. and volunteered at O’Keefe Ranch. Eileen had a wonderful sense of humor and loved gardening and baking.
In the early 60’s, the Seabrooks sponsored a young Korean girl through the Unitarian Service Committee, helped fund her education and over the years took great pride as she married, raised three children of her own and emigrated to America where the entire family became exemplary citizens.
Eileen is survived by Gil – her husband of 72 years and, at the time of her death, was survived by 3 sons, Wayne (Marg) of Vernon, Randy (Heather) of Prince George and by (recently deceased) son Warren (Sharon) of Vernon. She is also survived by brother Roy (Joan) of Vernon and was predeceased by her brother Bill of Camrose. Eileen is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren as well as by many nieces and nephews.
A ‘Family and Friends” commemorative gathering will be held on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eileen may be made to the Vernon Schubert Centre.
