Elizabeth (Bette) Irene Ansley passed away peacefully in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on July 31, 2006, at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her husband Russell “Keith” Scott Ansley in 1980. Bette was born in Regina, Sask. to Edith and Judge Harold Francis Thomson. Her sister Frances Waylett now lives in Charleston, South Carolina. Bette was raised in Regina, and then completed her education at the University of Manitoba. After graduation she returned to Saskatchewan where she had a career in social work prior to marrying Keith and moving to B.C. They raised their two daughters in Kimberley, B.C. Keith worked for Cominco until his retirement in 1979. Bette lived in Kimberley from 1953 to 2003. She loved skiing with friends at North Star until the age of 79, loved her summers at Clear Lake, Manitoba, enjoyed bridge, travelling, sewing for the hospital auxillary, and activities with the UCW at Kimberley United Church. These past three years she thoroughly enjoyed living at Orchard Valley Retirement Residence in Vernon. Bette had a great sense of fun and adventure, and was grateful for the life she shared with family and friends. Bette will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Barb Brogan of Nelson, B.C. and her grandchildren Mike and Kate; and her daughter Jane, her son-in-law Don Weixl Jr., and her grand-daughter Taylor of Vernon, B.C. Bette’s smiles and laughter will be truly missed. A memorial service for Bette will be held at the Kimberley United Church. In lieu of flowers, Bette requested that donations be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or the B.C. Cancer Society. Bette frequently expressed her gratitude for the caring manner and medical expertise of Dr. Gavin Smart. Her family would like to express their thanks for the exceptional care he offered her.
