Elizabeth (Bette) Jean


Elizabeth (Bette) Jean Stark passed away on May 27, 2007 in Vernon BC after a courageous battle with cancer. Bette (Appleton) was born in Calgary, AB in 1926. She married Gordon Stark in 1945 and they moved from Calgary to Swift Current, SK in 1947 where they raised their family. In 1989 Bette and Gordon moved to Vernon BC to retire. Bette will be missed by many friends and loved ones including husband of 61 years, Gordon; five children, Bonnie (Don) Findlay of Kelowna BC, Jennifer Drozdowski of Lethbridge, AB, Heather Hamilton of Brisbane, Australia, Gordon Stark of Victoria, BC, and Jodie (Jeff) Bernath of Saskatoon, SK; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Dwayne) Faust of Kelowna, BC, Jaime Alexander of Brisbane, Australia, Kelsey and Kevin Drozdowski of Calgary, AB, Brandon Thompson of Victoria, BC, and Capri and Chase Bernath of Saskatoon, SK; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua, James, Matthew, Cameron and Brady Faust of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children. Bette was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Molly Appleton and two brothers, Robert and Paul Appleton. Bette was a homemaker whose focus was her family and friends. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Over the years, Bette’s favourite pastimes were reading, playing bridge, sewing, knitting, petti point, needlework, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, and visiting with friends. She also enjoyed and had a special flare for home decorating. Throughout her life, Bette was especially fond of her pet dogs, mostly recently little Buffie. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caring doctors, nurses, and volunteers at the Vernon and Kelowna Cancer Clinics. They also send a very special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Vernon Hospice House for the gentle and compassionate care they gave to Bette and her family in her final weeks. A Celebration of Bette’s Life was held on May 31 in Vernon. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home.
