April 21, 1931 - December 12, 2021
Our Lord and Saviour called our beloved mother home to Heaven on December 12th, 2021 to be once again united with her husband John, who died on March 13th, 2007 and their son Charlie, who died on January 15th, 1976. Ella had a long and rewarding life and now rests in peace with many other dearly departed family members and friends who walked the path before her.
Ella will be lovingly remembered by her son, Eric (Debi); two daughters, May (John) Lawrence and June (Tim) Scott all of Vernon, B.C.; four grandchildren, Eric (Rhea) Mummery of Calgary, Alberta, Jason Lawrence of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Tyler White of Kelowna, B.C. and Tamara White of Vernon, B.C.; her great-grandchildren, Riley Cadang and Brayden Mummery of Calgary, Alberta, Jesse Lawrence of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Tianna and Nathan White of Vernon, B.C.; three brothers, Edwin (Eleanor) Henczel of Grand Forks, B.C., Herman (Doreen) Henczel of Langley, B.C. and Ken (Jean) Henczel of Armstrong, B.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ella was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Ron and George Henczel and two sisters, Dorothy Butterworth and Adeline McKeown.
Ella was born in the family home in Creighton Valley, B.C. on April 21st, 1931. The family moved back to Saskatchewan for a brief time and then returned to B.C. Ella spent most of her life in the Lumby and Vernon area. She married John Colter on September 21st, 1952 and moved to our family farm, that was previously her parents, in December, 1965, where she continued to reside until well after celebrating her 90th birthday.
Ella will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness to everyone. She kept busy with gardening, sewing, crafts and knitting. She was always ready to give whatever she could to anyone. Her hands were constantly busy and she made hundreds of scarves, toques, mittens and socks so they could be donated to the less fortunate for their use and enjoyment.
Cremation preceded a private family Graveside Service which was held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Minister Murray Ververda officiating. A celebration of thanksgiving for the lives of both Ella and her brother George Henczel will take place at a later date due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place at this time.
We, Ella's family want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Peter Henley, Dr. J.A. de Beer, Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the staff and caregivers at the North Okanagan Hospice for their loving and diligent care of our beloved mother and grandmother.
As an expression of sympathy, those of you who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Ella to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or to the charity of your choice.
