Elsie Marie Mills (nee Boyd)

November 5, 1935 - August 6, 2019
Elsie Marie Mills (nee Boyd) hummed her last song on Tuesday, August 6th after a very brief illness. She lived her life independently with integrity, humility, and on her own terms. She met death the same way.
Born November 5, 1935 in Ashton Creek to Art and Ruth Boyd (nee Stenquist), Elsie cherished many great times with her seven sisters, the fun-loving "Boyd Girls": Nora, (Harry Hopkins); Agnes, (Phil Hesketh); Ruth (Ted Morrison); Dorothy "Dot", (Ian Royan); Velma, (Bob Vandenborre); Bernice, (Gary Simpson); Gail (Aldis Balcers).
"Mom" to Tom, (Susan Rome); Lynda; Heather, (Brian Porter); "Gran" to Alisha, (Jake); Tyler (Carla Morin); Amber, (Matthew McQuarrie); Layne (Heather); Taylor (Corrin), Marissa (Nick); Elexi, (Mike Kaats); and, Kristen (Adrian Amstutz); and, "G-G" to Aajfe and Lachlan, Elsie loved being together with her family.
The many friends that she collected and kept throughout her life from school in Enderby and Armstrong and work in Kamloops and New Westminster speak to her respect, loyalty and joy of life. She got together with them as often as possible and it was never often enough for her.
In her final years Els regularly walked to Aquafit sessions and enjoyed meeting new friends at the coffee-clatch afterward. She frequented live music, plays and theatre events at the Powerhouse Theatre and Vernon Rec Centre, and always looked forward to complaining about the annual dusty, or rainy, family picnic while waiting for tickets at the Caravan Stage Theatre productions. Elsie loved: People, Country music, Old movies, Day-time TV, Road trips, Walking, Getting out, The cabin at the lake, the IPE, and, Mostly, her family, friends and fun.
We give our thanks to the staff at VJH and especially to Dr. Ron Long for his years of considerate, respectful health care for our Mom- She really appreciated it.
A celebration of Elsie's life is planned for October 26, 2-4 pm, at the Halina Centre in the Vernon Rec Centre.
Donations in her name can be made to the VJH or a live music or theatre group or venue of your choice.
